Lorenzo Mattotti, born in 1954, lives and works in Paris.
Begins, at the end of the 70s, as an author of comic strips and in the first years of the 80s founded, with other designers the group Valvoline.
In 1984 he creates "Fuochi", that, accepted in the world of comic strips, would win important international prizes.
With "Il Signor Spartaco", "L'uomo alla finestra", "Stigmate", "Linea fragile", "Jekyll & Hyde", "Il rumore della brina", and many other books right up to "Angkor", the work of Mattotti developed due to a great constant coherence, but in the versatile form of someone who always chooses to try new things.
Nowadays, his books are translated in the whole world.He publishes on daily newspapers and magazines such as The New Yorker, Le Monde, Das Magazin, Suddeutsche Zeitung, Nouvel Observateur, Corriere della Sera, Repubblica and Il Sole 24 Ore.
For fashion, he interpreted the models of the most well know stylists on the magazine Vanity. For the young he illustrated various books such as "Pinocchio" and "Eugenio" that wins in '93 the Grand Prix of Bratislava, one of the most well recognized prizes in the editorial world for the young.
Numerous are his personal exhibitions such as the anthological at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, at the Frans Hals Museum of Haarlem at the Musei di Porta Romana.
Creates fliers, covers, publicity campaigns and he was the one that created the flier for the cinema festival of Cannes 2000 and the fliers for l'Estate Romana.
He recently worked on the film "Eros" of Antonioni, Soderbergh and Wong Kar Way taking care of the presentational segments of every episode.
In 2002 Jekyll & Hyde comes out for Einaudi , an adaptation of the Stevenson romance on the texts of Jerry Kramsky.
In 2003 he published "La Stanza" for Coconino Press and the Rumore della Brina, with the texts of Einaudi. That same year he gives the go ahead with his friend Jerry Kramsky to the series of Pittipotti, a series of books for kids that for now four volumes have been published, all for the publisher Orecchio Acerbo: L'isola dei Pittipotti (2003), Alla ricerca dei Pittipotti (2003), La scomparsa dei Pittipotti (2004) e I Pittipotti e la tartarugosa (2004).
In 2006 the director Renato Chiocca dedicates to him a documentary, Mattotti, in competition with Les Rencontres du Cinema Italien de Grenoble, together with direct testimonies from friends and collaboration from people like Claudio Piersanti, Jerry Kramsky e Art Spiegelman, he silently enters the Parisian atelier.
In 2011 publishes for Fantagraphics The Raven, where he illustrates the texts of the musical album of Lou Reed inspired by Edgar Allan Poe.
